About the Authors
Jeffrey Reaser is a linguist and Professor of English at North Carolina State University where he serves as associate director of the Language & Life Project. He is the author of 5 books and numerous articles. He also wrote the nation’s first dialect awareness curriculum endorsed by a state’s department of education. Walt Wolfram is a William C. Friday Distinguished University Professor at North Carolina State University, where he also directs the North Carolina Language and Life Project. He has pioneered research on social and ethnic dialects since the 1960s and published 24 books, 8 edited collections, more than 300 articles, and 15 television documentaries. He has received two Emmy awards for documentaries, and has received numerous awards, including the North Carolina Award (the highest award given to a citizen of North Carolina) and the Caldwell Humanities Laureate from the NC Humanities Council.
